The School Day

Morning School 9.00am - 12noon

Afternoon School 1.10pm - 3.15pm

Children are admitted into school from 8.50 a.m. Children arriving before that time should join the Early Birds Club organised in the hall or classrooms from 7.45am. They should not be left at school or in the playgound unattended.

Children arriving at school after 9.00 am will be marked late in the register. It is essential that children arrive on time for school or they will miss vital learning activities described below.

All children go into the hall for 'Wake Up Shake Up' after registration. This is a fun movement session designed to prepare the children for learning through exercise and also to promote health and fitness.

After this they work in groups until 9:35am on our phonics programme.

The rest of the morning is spent on Literacy and Mathematics lessons. Year 1 & 2 are set for Literacy & Mathematics across the year group to enable individual needs to be met and provide appropriate challenge or reinforcement of key learning concepts. Afternoons are spent on other subject areas. Cross curricular and topic focus days and weeks are planned to enable depth of learning in particular subject areas. Learning is enriched by visitors and trips.

Please inform the school if your child is away by telephoning the office or by a note to the class teacher.

Children have a 15 minute break in the morning.

The teaching time per day is 4 hours and 15 minutes which includes Religious Education, excluding statutory daily acts of worship, registration and breaks including lunch.

The total for the week is 21 hours and 15 minutes.

The Department for Education has recommended the minimum number of teaching hours for Key Stage 1 as being 21 hours.

School Office hours 8.45 - 3.30 p.m.

Reception children will be dismissed from the reception outside play area. Year 1 will be dismissed by the oak tree door and Year 2 from the Year 2 exit at the back of the hall.

As the safety of your child is paramount, children must be collected from the teacher at the end of the school day, by you, or someone nominated by you.

Please inform the class teacher or the Office should changes occur.
